Supply Minister
Rev. Wayne L. Owens

On Monday, January 21, 2008 the Executive Board voted to make Rev. Wayne Owens our Stated Supply minister.  Rev. Owens will be serving as our pastor while we search for a permanent minister.

He will be working on a part time basis, primarily off-site, but readily available to cover our needs.  He has already started visitation and working with our committees.

We are blessed that God has put Rev. Owens in our midst during this time of transition and that he has answered this call.

Mr. Owens is a retired minister with a background in business, 3 decades as a local church pastor, and 16 years as an executive in national organizations of the United Church of Christ and the American Baptist Churches. Living in Three Bridges, New Jersey, Mr. Owens serves frequently in the capacity of Pastoral Supply Minister in area churches. Rev. Owens has been a regular Supply Minister at the Community Church of Cedar Grove since 2005.

Director of Christian Education
Luke Higgins

Luke is currently a PhD. student in theology at Drew University in Madison, NJ. He holds a Masters of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, and a B.A. in Philosophy from University of California, Santa Cruz. He is currently “in care” with the Connecticut conference to be ordained in the United Church of Christ. Once his doctorate is complete he hopes to move into ministry through teaching theology at the seminary and/or university level.

Luke has a wide range of experiences working with young people, including teaching elementary school and special education, running programs for children at bookstores and museums, and interning as a campus minister. Working with children and young people has always brought joy, spontaneity and richness into his life and he loves to share that passion with younger and older people alike. Luke also brings with him a deep love of music, which he shares through his singing, guitar playing, song leading, and even occasional song writing.

Currently, Luke coordinates all our educational programs for children and youth. He is the primary teacher for the 6th – 8th grade Church school class and leads the Sunday evening youth group. Luke is available at the church in his office on Tuesday mornings/afternoons (10:30 – 2) and on Sunday mornings. He is always enthusiastically open to have a “deep” conversation with you about God, the cosmos, the meaning of life – or anything else you want to talk about!spacer320.gif (834 bytes)
